Champagne Alexandre Chartogne-Taillet
Founded in 1929, Chartogne-Taillet is a benchmark grower Champagne estate located in Merfy, a Premier Cru village in the Montagne de Reims. For four generations, the Chartogne-Taillet family has been crafting artisanal Champagnes with a strong focus on authenticity, terroir expression, and precision.
A decisive turning point came with Alexandre Chartogne, who took over the estate in 2006 after studying oenology in Burgundy. Deeply inspired by Burgundian philosophy, he redefined the domaine’s identity, placing individual parcels, soil diversity, and meticulous vineyard work at the heart of his approach.
The estate’s vineyards are planted mainly with Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, spread across a mosaic of clay, sand, and chalk soils unique to Merfy and its surroundings. Vinification is carried out with great care, often using oak barrels, and guided by minimal intervention to preserve the purity and energy of the fruit.
Today, Chartogne-Taillet produces refined, expressive Champagnes of remarkable depth and balance—wines that combine power with elegance, and that have earned the estate a place among the most sought-after artisanal producers in Champagne. Distinctive, terroir-driven and uncompromising, Chartogne-Taillet Champagnes are true connoisseurs’ wines.
